Payroll Coordinator (Contract - Maternity Leave Coverage)

Location: Centennial, CO 80112
Schedule: Onsite (with some flexibility)
Duration: Late August/Early September through January
Pay: $26/hr to $31/hr


Overview

We are seeking a Payroll Coordinator to support a high-volume payroll environment during a maternity leave coverage. This role will begin with a transition/training period alongside the current coordinator and continue through year-end and into early 2026 to ensure a smooth handoff.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured, deadline-driven environment and is comfortable managing payroll across multiple entities and systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for approximately 450 employees across two entities and systems
  • Compile and enter data from timesheets; audit and validate timecards for accuracy
  • Review payroll registers and perform weekly audits to ensure compliance and accuracy
  • Communicate with field teams and internal stakeholders to resolve timesheet discrepancies
  • Maintain employee records within the HRIS system (new hires, status changes, tax updates, direct deposits)
  • Process payroll payments including checks and direct deposits
  • Support 401(k) reporting, garnishments, and employment verifications
  • Assist with year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation and ACA reporting
  • Troubleshoot payroll issues including federal and certified payroll inquiries
  • Maintain payroll procedures, documentation, and personnel files
  • Partner on system updates and process improvements as needed

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of payroll experience or relevant accounting/HR background
  • Experience processing high-volume, multi-state payroll preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to audit and validate data accurately
  • Highly organized and able to meet consistent weekly deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills with both field and office teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll/HRIS systems
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when needed
